Description

A moist and fluffy vanilla birthday cake with creamy buttercream frosting, perfect for any celebration.


Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • Buttercream frosting (for decorating)
  • Sprinkles (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time, then add vanilla.
  4. Alternately add dry ingredients and combined buttermilk & milk to the butter mixture, beginning and ending with dry ingredients.
  5. Divide batter evenly between pans and bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Cool cakes in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
  7. Frost with buttercream and decorate with sprinkles as desired.

Notes

  • You can color the frosting with food coloring for a fun touch.
  • Cakes can be made a day in advance and stored covered at room temperature.
